QR sticker for books, journals and notebooks

A QR sticker for the inside cover of your journal, notebook, textbook or sketchbook. Whoever finds it can message you through a private relay, with nothing personal written inside.

Frequently asked questions

How does a QR sticker help me get a lost notebook or journal back?

Whoever finds it opens the cover, sees the sticker, and scans it with any phone camera. They write a short message on the page that opens, and it reaches you through Kindtact's private relay with an email alert. You arrange the handover without having written your details inside the book.

Where should I put the sticker on a book or notebook?

Inside the front cover is the easiest place to start: it's the first thing a finder sees and it's protected there. The back cover or the end of the spine also work. Stick it to a clean, dry, smooth area, press it down firmly, and keep it off the hinge where the cover flexes.

Will the finder see my name or what I wrote?

Kindtact doesn't show your name or email on the scan page. The finder sees a short contact form, plus a note from you if you've added one. Your phone number is only shown if you choose to share it. Anyone who has the book in their hands can of course open it, so the sticker is about giving an honest finder a way to reach you, not about locking the pages.

Can I put a message or a reward on the sticker?

You can choose a short headline when you order, such as “RETURN ME”. For anything longer, add a note to that QR in your dashboard. Remember the note is public: it's shown to everyone who scans, under “Message from the owner”, so leave out your address and anything else identifying.

I lend books to friends. Will this get them back?

It helps. A sticker inside the cover says the book has an owner and gives the borrower a quick, no-awkwardness way to message you, whether to say they've finished it or to ask when you'd like it back. It won't make anyone return a book, but it takes away the excuse that they didn't know how to reach you.

Do I get an alert every time someone scans?

No. You're alerted when a finder sends you a message, with an email and a dashboard notification. Scanning on its own doesn't send you anything.

What if I sell the book or give it away?

You can archive that QR from your dashboard. Anyone who scans it afterwards sees a friendly “no longer active” page instead of the contact form, and an archived QR frees up its place in your account's allowance.

Do I need a separate sticker for every book?

Yes, one per book is best. Each QR can have its own label, which only you can see, so when a message arrives you know straight away whether it's about the sketchbook, the planner or the borrowed novel.

How much does it cost?

A Kindtact account is free. You only pay for the printed sticker pack, and the buy page shows the current packs and prices. The plans page covers what the free account includes.
