Frequently asked questions
What is Kindtact?
Kindtact lets you attach a QR code to any item — your car, bag, pet, or anything else. Say someone scratches your car in a car park — they can scan the sticker and send you a private message, without you ever sharing your email address — or your phone number, unless you choose to share it and let finders call you.
Do I need an app to send a message?
No. Anyone with a smartphone camera can scan your QR and send a message straight from their browser. No app download required.
How does the owner receive messages?
Messages are delivered securely to your Kindtact dashboard. With email notifications enabled, you'll also receive an alert in your inbox the moment a message arrives.
Can someone call me instead of messaging?
Only if you want them to. Messaging is the default and always works. If you add your phone number in your dashboard, finders also see a “Call now” button that dials it straight from their phone — handy for urgent moments like a lost pet. The setting applies to every QR on your account, your number is visible to anyone who scans while it's on, and you can switch it off again at any time.
Is the scanner's identity kept private too?
Yes. Scanners are never required to enter their name or contact details unless they choose to. If they want a reply, they can optionally leave their contact info.
How much does Kindtact cost?
Kindtact is free — 100 QR codes and 5,000 messages a month, with no card required. You only pay for printed sticker packs if you want us to print them for you. See what's included at kindtact.com/plans.
Can I try it before signing up?
Yes. Visit kindtact.com/scan/demo to see exactly what a scanner experiences — no sign-up needed.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No card required to set up an Early Supporter account. You'll only enter card details when you order a printed sticker pack at checkout.
Can businesses use Kindtact for anonymous feedback?
Absolutely. Many businesses use Kindtact to collect honest, anonymous feedback from customers. Place QR codes on tables, receipts, packaging, or walls — and feedback arrives directly in your inbox.
What kinds of businesses use Kindtact?
Cafés, restaurants, retail stores, salons, gyms, offices, and event organisers — any business that wants to hear from customers without making them fill out a public review form.
Can I brand the QR code with my business name?
Yes — you can replace the Kindtact icon in the centre of every QR with your own logo. Upload a PNG, JPG, or SVG (up to 20 MB) from the Custom Logo card on your dashboard and it'll apply to all your QR codes automatically.
How do I print my QR code?
Download your QR code as a high-resolution PNG from your dashboard and print it at home, at a print shop, or through any online printing service. No special software required.
What size should I print my sticker?
It depends on where you're placing it. For close-up items (pet tags, key rings) a 2 × 2 cm (~0.8" × 0.8") sticker works well. For cars and luggage, 5 × 5 cm (~2" × 2") is reliable. For walls or signs, 8 × 8 cm (~3.1" × 3.1") or larger. See our size guide on the Get QR page.
Can I put a QR code on a water bottle?
Yes, but there's an important caveat: large QR codes on curved surfaces (like round water bottles) can distort and fail to scan. We recommend keeping the QR to no more than 2 cm square (~0.8") and placing it on the flattest part of the bottle. Always test-scan a proof before ordering in bulk.
Can I put my QR on a coffee mug or other merchandise?
Yes. Services like Printful, Gelato, and Printify let you upload your QR code and order custom merchandise — coffee mugs, tote bags, and more — shipped directly to you. Mugs are a great option for businesses wanting anonymous table feedback.
What print-on-demand services do you recommend?
For stickers: StickerMule. For mugs and merchandise: Printful or Gelato. For cards and marketing materials: Vistaprint. You can find links on the pricing page.
Is my personal information safe?
Yes. Kindtact is designed privacy-first. Your email is never visible to the person scanning your QR, and your phone number stays private unless you choose to share it. We only store what's needed to deliver messages to you.
What happens if someone misuses my QR code?
Several things stop it before you have to act. Every message is screened automatically before delivery — severe content is never delivered at all, and hostile content is refused and the sender asked to reword it. A single sender can send at most two messages to the same sticker in any 30-day period, so repeated unwanted contact isn't possible. You can block a sender, and report any message you receive. On top of that you can deactivate or delete any QR code from your dashboard at any time. Our Safety page explains each of these, and is honest about what automated screening can and can't catch.
Can I turn off a QR code if I sell an item?
Yes. When you no longer need a QR code — for example, if you sell your car — you can deactivate it from your dashboard. The QR will stop working immediately.
Can finders share their GPS location when they message me?
Yes — Kindtact has an optional GPS location feature on the scan page. If the finder grants permission, their browser captures a precise GPS location fix that's attached to the message you receive, so you know exactly where your item turned up. Sharing GPS location is always opt-in: finders can leave it blank, type a free-text place name instead, or do both.
Is the GPS location feature mandatory for finders?
No. The GPS location share is completely optional and only happens if the finder explicitly grants browser permission. The message form works just fine without it — they can type a free-text location, or skip location entirely.
What is the Kindtact reward system?
The reward system lets you offer a small thank-you to anyone who helps return a lost item. Set an amount and currency on the item in your dashboard, and a reward badge appears whenever a finder scans your QR or opens the reply page — so they know there's a token of appreciation waiting if they help reunite you with your item.
Does Kindtact handle the reward payment?
No. The reward system is display-only — the amount you advertise is just a signal to the finder. You arrange the actual payment directly with them once you're back in touch. Kindtact never holds or transfers reward money.
Which currencies does the reward system support?
The reward system currently supports USD, CAD, EUR, GBP, and AUD. You can set any amount from a few cents up to 10,000 in the major unit, and change or clear it any time from your dashboard.
Is there a referral program?
The referral program is paused during the Early Supporter window — the previous "free month of Premium" reward doesn't apply while paid plans are off-sale. We'll bring referrals back with a new reward when paid plans return.
Is it safe to put a Kindtact sticker on my child's things?
A Kindtact sticker gives nobody a way to contact your child — it routes to you, the adult whose account it is. There is no inbox your child can open and no message your child receives, so if a stranger writes something they shouldn't, you are the one who sees it. By default nothing on the sticker identifies your child either — no name, age, school or year level, just a code — though you can add your own text if you want to, and a name or class is no different from what's already written on most school bottles. Messages are also screened automatically before delivery, and content involving minors sexually is blocked outright and never delivered. See our Safety page for the full detail, including the limits of what automated screening can do.
