Is Kindtact an asset management system?

No. Kindtact is the get-it-back layer. It has no serial-number fields, check-in and check-out, depreciation or audit trail. Keep your asset register or spreadsheet exactly as it is, and use the label on each QR (for example “Laptop 07”) to match a Kindtact tag to its row.

What does someone who finds a laptop see?

They scan with their phone camera, so no app is needed. They see a short contact form and, if you wrote one, your Custom note under “Message from the owner”. Your name, address and email aren't shown, and a mobile number is only shown if you choose to share it.

What should I put in the Custom note?

Keep it short and written for strangers, because the note is public and everyone who scans can read it. Something like “This belongs to our team. Please message us and we'll arrange a pickup” works well. Leave out room numbers, staff names and anything you wouldn't put on a noticeboard. You can edit the note after the stickers are printed.

Can I organise tags by team, site or type of gear?

Yes, with categories. Give a QR a category when you edit it, or go to Settings, Your QRs, Categories and choose “New category” to name one and pick the QRs that belong in it. In your QR list you can filter by category or switch on Group by category.

What happens when gear changes hands?

Use the Transfer button on the QR. The other person accepts it into their own Kindtact account, and from then on its messages go to their inbox. It suits a site lead or a department head who looks after their own kit.

What about gear that is sold or retired?

Archive its QR. Anyone who scans it then sees a friendly “no longer active” page instead of the contact form, and you can unarchive it later if the item comes back into service.

How many tags can I have, and what does it cost?

Your Kindtact account is free, and you only pay for printed sticker packs. The plans section above shows the current allowance and pack prices, and a pack counts as one QR slot however many stickers it holds. If you need more room, email sales@kindtact.com.
